Avoidance
Identifying and staying away from the things that trigger your allergies is the best therapy. This works best for indoor allergens like dogs, cats and dust mites.

Medications
When you can not avoid allergens, there are many medications that can help control allergy symptoms. Medications simply work to block your symptoms. Decongestants and antihistamines are the most common allergy medications, and they help to reduce a stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing and itching. Nasal steroid sprays are effective in treating inflammation in your nose, and nasal antihistamine sprays can help reduce the drainage that occurs with allergies. An allergist will work with you to determine which medications are best for you. These medications and others work best if they are taken BEFORE the allergy symptoms become severe.

Immunotherapy
Also called allergy immunotherapy, this is the most effective therapy as it is the only one that actually changes your allergies. Small amounts of the pollens or other allergens you are allergic to are injected into your body or put under your tongue in gradual, increasing doses to build up your tolerance.
